Carey Price, Canadiens goaltender, has no plans to retire ‘at this moment’

Star goaltender Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens says his daily pain relief is his top concern, while he is still hopeful of making a comeback to the ice.
The 35-year-old still has a nagging knee problem and spoke to reporters on Monday at the club’s training facility on the south coast of the city.
We’ll have to proceed gradually, Price added. “I don’t have a plan to retire at this moment.

After a spectacular postseason run in which he took the Habs all the way to the 2021 Stanley Cup Finals, the Vezina and Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy winner only played five games in the previous campaign.
The injury Price sustained has prevented him from skating again. In October 2021, he also enrolled in the joint NHL/NHLPA player assistance programme for substance usage.
Before this season got underway, general manager Kent Hughes said in September that Price would be placed on long-term injured reserve.

Price has been spending time with his family in the interim, and his main objective is “simply to get healthy.” He has been concentrating on his knee rehabilitation, but it hasn’t worked out thus far.
“That has been the real frustrating part,” Price said, adding he’s continuing to try and solve the problem without intrusive surgery. “I’m keeping my hopes up.

Price responded that he hasn’t fully processed whether he would be at peace if he weren’t able to return to the front of the net.
He declared, “I’ve always been a little of an optimist, and I’m not giving up.
The 14-year NHL veteran from Anahim Lake, British Columbia, has played for the Habs his whole time. The seven-time all-star was recognised in 2015 as the NHL’s finest goaltender and most valuable player.

In honour of his struggle to return to the Canadiens’ net, he was awarded the 2022 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, which is given to the NHL player who best exemplifies the virtues of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication. — with information from the Canadian Press and Olivia O’Malley of Global News.
