A British American warning of the possibility of a terrorist attack in the Nigerian capital

On Sunday, the United States and Britain warned of the possibility of a terrorist attack in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, especially targeting government buildings, places of worship, schools, and so on.
Nigeria is battling an Islamic insurgency that is primarily based in the northeast of the nation, but in July, ISIS claimed credit for an attack on an Abuja jail in which 440 prisoners were released. This sparked worries that the terrorists might be leaving their strongholds.

The American embassy in Nigeria warned that terrorist attacks, notably in Abuja, were becoming more likely. She continued by mentioning that other locations under risk include shopping malls, police stations, and the offices of international organisations.
“The US embassy will reduce its services until further notice,” the embassy said in a warning to citizens in Nigeria.

Due to the “increasing risk of a terrorist assault in Abuja,” the UK government warned its residents in Nigeria to exercise caution.
She continued, “The attacks could be arbitrary and could harm Western interests as well as tourism destinations.”
The insecurity, which has spread throughout Nigeria, is a major issue for the voters when they go to the polls in February to elect a new president to succeed President Mohamed Bukhari.

A response from the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was not possible.
