Macron: Peace is possible in Ukraine when the Ukrainians decide it

On the first day of a peace summit in Rome, French President Emmanuel Macron opined that “peace is achievable” in Ukraine when “the Ukrainians decide.”
We must prevent Russian authorities from establishing peace in the present since only the Ukrainians have the power to do so.
Nothing, he continued, “justifies the Russian aggression in Ukraine,” and “the peace decision should not be left as a Russian pawn.”

On October 12, the French President said that Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, should “return to the bargaining table,” emphasising that France would give Kyiv anti-aircraft defence systems.
Macron also expressed, during a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart, Folodimir Zellinski, last Monday, his “great concern” regarding the recent Russian missile strikes on Ukraine, pledged to increase the French military support to Kev.

It is notable that France has promised to provide Ukraine with air defence and radar systems from Kyiv in the upcoming weeks, specifically to assist Ukraine in defending itself against drone strikes.
Macron made no specific reference of the kind or quantity of anti-aircraft missiles that would be delivered. Previously, Paris had supplied Ukraine with shoulder-fired “Mistral” anti-aircraft missiles.
