Tesla appears to be set to revolutionise the truck business as well after making revolutionary changes in the passenger car market with its electric vehicles. CEO Elon Musk stated that the new company aims to create 50,000 electric trucks by 2024.
Musk stated that the cost of producing electric trucks is far higher than that of producing cars, which explains why the current production goal of 50 thousand vehicles is considered to be “revolutionary” in the context of the trucking sector.
According to the Statista network, Peterbilt is the market leader in the eighth-largest truck market globally. In 2020, it sold nearly 72,000 trucks, while 2019 was its best year with sales of nearly 100,000 trucks. If Tesla achieves its productive goal of 50,000 trucks, it will completely upend the market.
Tesla also claims that users of its electric trucks will pay $200 000 in fuel bills within three years, as well as maintenance costs that will be significantly lower than those for other trucks, and that shipping of the large Tesla car won’t be a problem either because the company claims that its range reaches 500 miles. She also claims that the SIMI can recover 70% of its scope in just 30 minutes of charging.
As Mask previously disclosed, the car, which has been highly anticipated for five years, will eventually come to light next year, the manufacturing of Tesla trucks may be a significant step towards the Cybertruck industry predicted from Tesla.
