Assistant Secretary of State for Australia calls for cooperation to protect the Antarctica

The Committee for the Preservation of Live Maritime Resources in the Antarctic’s forty-first meeting will take place from tomorrow through October 26 in Hobart, Australia, and will be attended by Monica Medina, the US Secretary of State for the International Ocean and Environmental and Scientific Affairs Office.

A statement by the US State Department said today, Saturday, that a debtor will encourage countries to work cooperatively to protect the Antarctic region, including by fulfilling the commitment of the Living Marine Resources Committee in the Antarctic to establish a representative system for protected marine areas.
In order to strengthen worldwide efforts to safeguard the Antarctic ecosystems and environment, Medina will also meet with academics, government officials, and NGOs.
