The number of votes cast for the Golden Ball for 2022 was published by The Mirror newspaper. Cristiano Ronaldo received zero votes, while the Frenchman Karim Benzema, who won the award, swept the poll.
The Portuguese striker, who is currently having trouble with his team, Manchester United, was disqualified from today’s English Premier League match against Chelsea for disciplinary reasons. He also appears to have lost his popularity, as he received “zero” from the sound of the golden ball for reporters, where no one chose it.
Ronaldo, 37, and the Golden Ball winner, came in 20th place this year, while Benzema outperformed everyone with 549 points compared to 193 for Senegalese striker Sadio Mane of Bayern Munich, who arrived in the summer, and 175 points for Belgian Kevin de Bruyne, who made games for Manchester City and came in third.
Mohamed Salah, a top player from Egypt, received 116 points and finished fifth in this year’s voting.
