US President Joe Biden said on Friday that he “intended” to run for re-election in 2024 although indicating that he had not yet made up his mind.
The Democratic President said, “I have not officially made the decision yet, but I intend to run again and we have time to make this decision,” in response to a query on the MNC channel about this issue.
When questioned about if his wife, Jill Biden, agrees with his plan to run for president once more, he responded, “My wife thinks that we are doing something incredibly important and that I should not give up on him.”
The oldest president in American history, Joe Biden, turns 80 on November 20. If he runs for office and wins, he will be in the 82nd both at the start of his second term and at its conclusion, which is a very touchy subject in his democratic camp.
Biden and his party are already preparing for the November 8 midterm election test, which is frequently difficult for any president in the position.
Biden predicted a shift in favour of the Democrats by the end of the renewal election campaign due to the economy’s improvement.
Less than three weeks ago, on the date of eligibility, he told reporters at the White House: “There was a lot of movement, as they (the Republicans) advanced, and we advanced, and so on.
“Opinion polls have changed significantly,” he added. I believe the latest events will result in yet another improvement for us. This occurs at a time when recent surveys show that Republicans are advancing.
The midterm elections will be important because they might potentially strip the Democrats of their majority, especially in Congress.
However, Joe Biden said that the people had started to hear “positive news in the economy,” which is seen as a weakness given the rising inflation.
The US President noted the gradual decrease in fuel prices after it increased sharply, and the decrease in the unemployment rate in most parts of the country, as well as announcing on Friday the “largest reduction ever in the federal budget deficit. ”
He also emphasised that the Republicans wanted to “double” the tax breaks for the wealthiest while eliminating the minimum tax rate on large corporations.
Referring to similar actions made by the previous president Donald Trump, he continued, “This type of approach has failed in the past and will fail again.”
