The novel opens with the first tale, which describes the essence of Al-Skali, Cairo’s founder and a legendary military leader, as well as his grandchildren, who pursued a career that marked the Fatimid era in Egypt.

The second tale centres on the character of Badr Al-Jamali, the governor of Acre and an Armenian leader who used Al-Mustansir in God to reverse the effects of Al-Mustansiriya and restore order to Egypt after being appointed prime minister and commander of the armed forces. The Egyptians admired him for the order and justice he brought to Egypt.

The third and final story centres on Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, a Kurdish who was successful in defending Egypt from the Crusaders and how Egypt ruled after the Fatimids and their Shiite theology were exterminated.
