The German Minister of Economy announces its intention to accelerate the frequency of using smart electricity meters

German Economy Minister Robert Habik announced plans to increase the usage of smart metres for heating and energy.
Today, Thursday, at a symposium on the German Energy Agency, a Green Party MP noted that much time had been lost and that it was no longer appropriate to stop.

It’s important to note that what are known as smart metres are digital measuring devices connected to the network that measure heating or electricity consumption and automatically transfer the amount of consumption to companies that provide the service. Customers can also view this data continuously through an application on the smartphone, for example.

It is interesting that data privacy advocates who worry about the prospect of data misuse to spy on consumer lifestyles have criticised the smart metre technology.
Habik, the German deputy advisor, Olaf Schultz, explained that legitimate concerns should be taken seriously, but with the need to move forward and demand the removal of obstacles in front of smart meters as far as possible without endangering the confidence of citizens.

According to Habik, it is conceivable to upgrade the transformation in the energy sector by using technical skills. He also said that it is possible to lighten the load on the network and improve energy efficiency.

The German Energy Agency declared that a new batch was required in order to unleash the possibilities of digitalization in the transformation of the energy sector and to get rid of fossil fuels. The agency also highlighted the use of smart measurement systems as a crucial element in this topic.
