He was charged on Friday with attempting to murder a Frenchman who had recently sustained serious injuries while playing for his side against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.
The public prosecutor said that the 26 -year -old admitted that he was “the owner of the projectile that was directed towards the car park of the visiting fans” during the match in the coastal city in southern France on September 13.
The French prosecution appealed the judge’s decision to free the accused on Friday.
The victim, a 65-year-old male, required hospital treatment for a neck injury and will likely spend four months off work; in contrast, his 64-year-old companion was wounded while attempting to remove the projectile and sustained hand burns.
After Marseille’s 0-1 loss, there were disturbances, and 17 individuals were taken into custody.
