Saskatchewan sending firefighters, equipment to support P.E.I. storm response efforts

One of the Maritime provinces is receiving assistance from Saskatchewan to help with storm response activities.
Following the destruction caused by post-tropical storm Fiona over a month ago, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) announced on Friday that it is deploying personnel and equipment to Prince Edward Island to assist with ongoing cleanup work.
15 wildland firefighters and a liaison officer will travel to Charlottetown, P.E.I., according to the SPSA.

, and spend two weeks operating from the provincial capital.
From the Prince Albert Airport, firefighters from stations across Saskatchewan will depart on Friday.
In a statement on Friday, SPSA President Marlo Pritchard stated, “Following the damage last month, the SPSA is glad to support the province of P. E. I. with the cleanup.” “The people of P.E.I. have worked so hard, and we are honoured to support them as they rebuild.

” Equipment that will be sent along with the Saskatchewan crew will include chainsaws and personal protective equipment to help with clearing fallen trees that damaged structures and continue to block roads.
As the province continues its disaster response, the P.E.I. administration requested these supports.

These wildland firefighters are “trained and experienced response crews who can support other jurisdictions, provinces, and countries during a wildfire or in response to other catastrophes,” the SPSA continues.

Saskatchewan is assisting P.E.I. storm response operations by deploying firemen and equipment.
