Ottawa police board names Eric Stubbs as new police chief

Eric Stubbs, an associate commissioner with the B.C. RCMP, has been named the new chief of police for the city by the Ottawa Police Services Board.
On November 17, Stubbs will take over as the chief of the Ottawa Police Service.
The declaration is made just a few days before Monday’s municipal election in Ottawa.

The police board thought it was their responsibility to choose a new chief in order to avoid any delays that would result from waiting for a new police board to make the decision, according to Eli El-Chantiry, the chair of the board and a city councillor.
During the “Freedom Convoy” protests that immobilized the city’s centre in February, the former police head Peter Sloly abruptly announced his resignation.
Since Sloly’s resignation, Steve Bell, the former deputy chief, has served as acting chief of the force.

Eric Stubbs is named the new police chief by the Ottawa police board.
