Instagram will make it easier to avoid trolls, abusers. Here’s how

The Meta Platforms-owned META. O company announced on Thursday that Instagram will improve capabilities that allow users to block the accounts of abusers and trolls on the social media platform.
By extending a function introduced last year that only permitted the blocking of any new accounts that they may create, users will now be able to block all of a person’s existing accounts.

According to preliminary test findings from the new adjustment, Instagram predicted that its community would need to block 4 million fewer accounts each week because they would now be blocked automatically.
The photo-sharing app, which is more widely used by teenagers and young adults than Meta’s Facebook, has intensified efforts to combat hate speech and online harassment on its platform.

Instagram has also upgraded its feature that helps prevent users from viewing possibly abusive messages, by filtering offensive words to story replies, and said on Thursday it is expanding “nudges” designed to protect creators from harassment.
