Funeral to be held Thursday for 2 officers killed in Innisfil, Ont. shooting

Ontario’s BARRIE — Two police officers who were killed in a shooting in Innisfil, Ontario, last week will have a private funeral today.
After responding to a call about a disturbance at a residence north of Toronto on October 11, South Simcoe Police Service officers Constables Morgan Russell, 54, and Devon Northrup, 33, passed away in the hospital.

The two cops did not pull their firearms out prior to being shot by a 22-year-old man at the residence, according to the Special Investigations Unit, which is conducting the investigation into the shooting.
The South Simcoe Police Service says the funeral — which is scheduled for 11 a. m. in Barrie, Ont. — will be attended by families of the officers, members of the force, representatives from other police services, emergency services personnel and officials.

The ceremony will be broadcast live for the general public to either online or in person at the Innisfil Community Church and the St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Bradford, Ontario.
After 9 a.m., the procession leaves the Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Services and moves through Barrie to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home before continuing to the Sadlon Arena, where the service is being held.

While Northrup, a six-year member who worked with the community mobilisation and engagement unit and served as a member of the mental health crisis outreach team, was a trained crisis negotiator and Russell, a 33-year veteran of the force, was a crisis mediator.
