China pledges to participate actively in global climate change

According to Chia Cheng, deputy minister of ecology and environment for China, his nation will cooperate with all parties to actively combat global climate change, will strengthen a fair and logical global system for climate governance with the goal of achieving shared benefits, and will continue to deepen cooperation between the countries of the south on the issue in order to add to its strength, knowledge, and solutions.

Chia further stated at a press conference held in conjunction with the 20th National Conference of the Communist Party today, according to the Chinese News Agency, that Beijing has actively contributed to global climate governance. He noted that China, the largest developing nation in the world, will reduce the largest amount of carbon emissions worldwide and achieve carbon neutrality in the shortest amount of time ever recorded.

He emphasized that China adheres to pluralism and the idea of shared responsibility, but that each country has distinct capacities. He also noted that Beijing has enhanced the signing of the Paris Agreement and is now moving into the implementation phase.

Chia emphasized that China has been a key player in the cooperation of the countries of the south on climate change and has tried its hardest to assist other developing nations, particularly the small island nations, African nations, and less developed nations, in order to improve their capacity for responding to climate change and lessen its adverse effects.
