The Chamber of Industry and Trade in Nablus: The siege of the Israeli occupation is an economic war

Omar Hashem, the chairman of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Palestinian “Nablus” governorate, declared an economic war on Nablus today, Wednesday, claiming that the city has suffered significantly as a result of Israel’s blockade, which has now been in place for nine days straight.

In a press release following a field trip in Nablus, Hashem added that the ongoing closure had severely damaged the city’s main roads and entrances because they are home to thousands of facilities and retail establishments. In addition, Hashem noted that the closure had a negative impact on the daily lives of merchants and citizens and that there were restrictions, audits, and waiting periods on the barriers strewn throughout the city.

“The business was affected by rates ranging from 40 to 70%, and productivity in factories was affected by 50%. Additionally, marketing, sales, transportation, and products were affected in different proportions depending on the sector, demonstrating the direct impact of economic facilities with this aggravated closure, the speaker continued.

He emphasised that thousands of customers believe their marketplaces every day from the Nablus Governorate, other Palestinian governorates, and from the lands of 48 in the city’s commercial hubs.
In turn, a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and media spokesman Yassin Dweikat said that the blockade and closure of the city of Nablus is a collective punishment, which greatly affects the Nabulsi and Palestinian economy in general.

Dweikat stressed that the objective is for a politician to bring the residents of Nablus together, pointing out that the repercussions of the siege were felt throughout all facets of the city’s everyday life, economy, and surrounds.
