Task force on UN declaration of Indigenous rights to make final report to City of Vancouver

On Wednesday, a “historic” report will be delivered to the Vancouver City Council.
Together with the Musqueam Indian Band, Squamish Nation, and Tsleil-Waututh Nation, the City of Vancouver’s Task Force on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples will give its final report.
According to the task force, it is the first Canadian policy jointly created by an Indigenous nation and a local administration.

The UNDRIP, which mandates that governments get free, prior, and informed consent before taking acts that affect Indigenous Peoples and their lands, was first implemented in British Columbia in 2019.
It has pledged to acknowledge the inherent rights, interests, and legal systems of Indigenous Peoples as part of its plan, known as the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.

It outlines a commitment to give Indigenous Peoples the freedom to live without prejudice and discrimination, to participate in decision-making, and to develop new business partnerships.
At 9:15 a.m., the presentation is supposed to start.
The event will be broadcast live here on Global News.
More to come, including documents from Richard Zussman of Global News.

City of Vancouver will receive the final report from the task team on the UN declaration of indigenous rights.
