New Canadian sanctions on Iran .. including a revolutionary commander

A third set of penalties on the Iranian government, including those against the deputy interior minister and the commander of the Revolutionary Guards in Sistan and Baluchistan, were issued by the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.
The additional punishments, she said in a statement, “are a result of Tehran’s severe and persistent abuses of human rights and its ongoing devastation of regional peace and security.

Despite the fact that the new sanctions targeted 6 people and 4 organisations, the ministry referred to them as “among the worst perpetrators who participated in or enabled massive human rights violations, including those against Iranian women, or the dissemination of propaganda to support the repression of the Iranian regime and the persecution of its citizens.

It is notable that the security forces have sworn to face the protesters once more as a result of the ongoing demonstrations in Iran in various regions of the country, particularly at night, since the middle of last month.
The deputy commander of the Iranian Internal Security Forces, Qassem Ridai, considered in Wednesday’s statements that there is no place for the protest that leads to “chaos, turmoil and insecurity”, as he put it.

Additionally, he emphasised that the activities of “rioters” in reference to the demonstrators will not go unanswered and that the security forces will never accept demonstrators who pursue such objectives.
According to reports, Iran’s protests have continued unabated after the death of the Kurdish young woman Muhsa Amini on September 16, 2022, three days after she was detained by the Ethics Police and sent to a hospital in Tehran.

Her passing has since stoked the flames of resentment over a number of issues, including the limitations placed on individual freedoms and the stringent regulations governing women’s attire, as well as the living and economic crisis that the Iranian people experience, not to mention the stringent regulations imposed by the government system and its political structure as a whole.

While purposely utilising repressive and violent tactics, the government has shut down the Internet, shot live ammunition at protesters, detained university students and even young children.
