Director of the Atomic Energy Agency expects to return to Ukraine soon

Rafael Groussi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, announced his wish to visit Ukraine again soon in order to negotiate the establishment of a secure perimeter around the “Zaborigia” nuclear power station, which is currently held by Russian soldiers.
We really agreed in principle that there was a chance for people to return to Russia and Ukraine, and we are currently continuing the negotiations to build the protection zone.

In an effort to create a nuclear security and safety zone surrounding the station, which has had power interruptions recently owing to the bombing of the site, “Groussi” has served as a mediator between Moscow and Kiev.

Notably, the International Atomic Energy Agency had earlier voiced its worry regarding the incarceration of two Ukrainian workers at the station, which is situated in one of the four regions of Ukraine that Russia declared to include it but only partially occupies.
