Blinken: The Houthis in Yemen deliberately insult the international community

As a result of their insistence on holding local employees who worked at the Washington embassy in Yemen prior to the start of the country’s war, the Houthi press has been accused by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinkkin of insulting the entire international community and disobeying diplomatic protocol.
He said, that the continued detention of these local employees in Sana’a a year ago, showing ignorance of diplomatic norms and an insult to the entire international community by the Houthis.

He continued: “A year ago, the Houthi troops broke into the Sanaa compound that the American embassy was using as its headquarters before it suspended operations in Yemen in 2015 and started detaining local staff members without cause.

Until today, 12 employees are still currently and formerly with the United States and the United Nations, most of whom were not allowed to communicate with their families, and one of them died earlier this year.

In order to secure the release of these workers, Blankin vowed to continue American efforts in coordination with regional and international partners. He also urged the Houthi group to immediately free these Yemeni citizens and return them to their families as a sign of their dedication to bringing peace to the Yemeni people and their readiness to take part in a future government that upholds the rule of law.

He emphasised that the Houthis’ willingness to return to the road of peace and put an end to the country’s protracted civil conflict is doubted by the continuing of such arbitrary incarceration.

Blinken: The Houthis in Yemen purposefully disparage other nations.
