The Palestinian Authority welcomes Australia’s decision on Jerusalem and its call for a two -state solution

News from Al-Madinah: Hussein Al-Sheikh, the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, welcomed Australia’s announcement on Tuesday that it did not recognise West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel as of today and its call for a two-state solution as being legitimate under international law.

Australia had made the contentious announcement that it will no longer recognise West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, recalling a decision made by the previous conservative administration.
Australian Foreign Minister Benny Wong confirmed that the status of the Holy City must be decided through peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians, and not through unilateral decisions.

The sheikh said: “We also value Australia that the future of sovereignty over Jerusalem is subject to a permanent solution based on international legitimacy, which is the two -state solution. ”
