The German Olympic Sports Federation demands the extension of sanctions against Russia

As the International Olympic Committee began to examine the return of the two state athletes to events, the German Olympic Sports Federation asked for the continuation of the sanctions placed on Russia and Belarus.
According to the German Olympic Sports Federation, it is still “unreasonable” for Russia and Belarus to participate in international tournaments. This information was provided to the German News Agency (dpa).

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, sanctions were imposed on Russia and Belarus.
According to the German Olympic Sports Federation, recent military events, such as Russia’s partial mobilisation and missile attacks that “particularly targeted people in Ukraine,” call for the continuance of sanctions.

The criteria under which Russian and Belarusian athletes can return to contests are currently the subject of consideration by the International Olympic Committee.
German Thomas Bach, the president of the International Olympic Committee, discussed the potential of allowing athletes to compete once more as long as they dissociate themselves from the conflict.

The German Olympic Sports Federation expressed its condition, as is the case of other European federations, in protest against the idea, also calling for the suspension of Russian and Belarus officials “until further notice. ”
It is interesting that the sanctions issued by the International Olympic Committee have not yet had an impact on notable figures from Russia, Belarus, or the two national Olympic teams.

The German Olympic Sports Federation requests that sanctions against Russia be extended.
