President Joe Biden will announce on Wednesday that he has decided to withdraw 15 million additional barrels from strategic reserves in order to pump them into the American market and lower fuel prices, a senior US official said on Tuesday, emphasising that the White House chief does not rule out withdrawing additional quantities if necessary.
This quantity, which will be pumped into the market in December, will represent the last part of a program announced by the American President in the spring to counter the high prices of black gold due to the war in Ukraine.
A total of 180 million barrels of oil were required as part of this initiative.
Biden wants to cut prices by releasing 15 million barrels of reserve oil.
