The European Union’s Supreme Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, recently made some remarks at the opening of the new European Diplomatic Academy in Bruges, Belgium. The UAE condemned his remarks, saying they were inappropriate and discriminatory.
According to a statement from the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Borrell’s comments are racist and should be rejected since they exacerbate intolerance and discrimination on a worldwide scale.
The Office of the Supreme actor was asked to offer a written interpretation on Borrell’s detrimental and discriminatory words, and the UAE has summoned Emile Polsen, Acting Head of the European Union Mission to the country.
The remarks made by Borrell are unfortunate and come at a time when all parties understand how important it is to respect different religions, cultures, and ethnicities as well as principles like tolerance, cohabitation, and pluralism.
