The Tunisian Minister of Economy discusses with an official in the International Fund for Agricultural Development, ways of cooperation

The International Fund for Agricultural Development’s regional director for the Near East, North Africa, Central Asia, and Europe, Dina Saleh, and Tunisia’s minister of economy and planning, Samir Said, discussed potential areas of cooperation this evening, on Tuesday.

The development of production systems in the state of Medenine, the project to support the relevant sectors for local development in the state of Siliana, and the agricultural development project were among the areas of development in the Tunisian countryside that were specifically discussed. This was according to a statement from the Ministry of Economy and Planning.

According to the statement, the two parties also discussed ways to advance their cooperation going forward, including the possibility of financing the fund for a number of projects that will be part of the development plan 2023–2025. They also spoke about the economic and social projects in Kairouan.

The Minister emphasised the significance of cooperation programmes with the International Fund for Agricultural Development, which are in line with national priorities, particularly projects aimed at ensuring food security and improving rural communities’ quality of life through the development of the agricultural sector, with a focus on creating employment opportunities and integrating women and young people into these projects.

The minister emphasised the need for the projects offered for financing to be marked by readiness and economic return in order to prevent the disruption of their implementation in the future. He called for utilising the fund’s experience in the field of project preparation and follow-up as well as overcoming any challenges that may arise.

Dina Saleh, for her part, emphasised the support of the ongoing fund for Tunisia for the development of the agricultural sector and rural areas, whether through the implementation of ongoing projects that were prepared at the level of the strategic programme for partnership with Tunisia for the period (2019-2024), as well as future projects that will be included in the development plan 2023 – 2025.
