The German President and the Spanish king open the Frankfurt Book Fair

The Frankfurt International Book Fair was officially opened on Tuesday evening by Spanish King Felipe VI and German President Frank-Valter Steinmeier.
During the opening ceremony, the German president called for solidarity with the Ukrainian book sector, given the Russian war on Ukraine.

“The severe repercussions that the conflict brought over the entire book industry and publishing companies in Ukraine include the destruction of libraries and publishing houses, which should not only stir our wrath, but it should all motivate us to help and support,” Steinmeier said.

Steinmeier expressed his belief that in -kind assistance, which is urgently needed in Ukraine, is considered in its deep meaning to serve the truth “and a work in combating deadly lying”, and as a struggle for enlightenment.
After two years in which the exhibition was held in light of the constraints associated with the Koruna, the largest book show in the world will hold its 74th edition this year without many restrictions.

The number of presentations participating in the current year version reached about 4000 exhibitions from 95 countries.
King Philby’s wife, Queen Letizia, also took part in the opening ceremony because Spain is this year’s exhibition guest of honour.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is inaugurated by the Spanish king and the German president.
