South Korea and Vietnam agree to upgrade relations to a “comprehensive strategic partnership”

South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin, with his Vietnamese counterpart, Boy Thane Son, agreed to upgrade the relationship of the two countries from their current strategic partnership, to a “comprehensive strategic partnership”.
According to the South Korean News Agency, this was said during a phone conversation on Tuesday, the day the two nations celebrated the 30th anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations between them.

The two parties noted that their interactions in the areas of military and security had been steadily increasing, and they had decided to expand their cooperation in these areas, including their ability to provide marine security.

In addition to asking for support and cooperation in achieving peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, the South Korean minister also asked Vietnam to support the issues South Korean businesses operating there are facing as well as its support for the South Korean hosting bid for Expo World 2030 in Busan.

The Vietnamese Foreign Minister, for his part, commended South Korean businesses for their contribution to bilateral economic relations and pledged to properly support their efforts.

Vietnam and South Korea have decided to transform their relationship into a “comprehensive strategic cooperation.”
