Fears of the increasing electricity crisis in France during the winter due to labor strikes

If labour disruptions continue to impede nuclear station maintenance and repair work, the operator of France’s Electricity Network issued a warning about the growing likelihood of a wintertime electricity supply crisis.

According to the French electricity network “Electrical de France,” which is run by the Bloomberg News Agency, although the company has made good progress in repairing the damaged nuclear plants’ pipes of the so-called stress cracks, the strikes forced them to delay the restart of a number of reactors for weeks.

At a time when Russia has significantly decreased the supply of natural gas to countries on the continent since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in late February, it is noteworthy that France is originally a state of electricity for most of the year and is seen as a crucial component in the face of the problem of electricity supply in Europe.

At the same time, the increase in technical problems in many French nuclear reactors since last December has made France an electricity importer, which increases the pressure on energy supplies in Europe as a whole.
It is interesting to note that just 29 of France’s 56 nuclear reactors are operating, producing roughly 27.8 GB of electricity.
