US Secretary of State Anthony Blinkin has accused China of wanting to annex Taiwan within a “much faster timetable” than before and warned that Chinese President Xi Jinping adopts a more aggressive stance in relation to the ongoing tension between Beijing and Washington over a number of issues, including the issue of Taiwan.
“We have seen the emergence of a completely different China in recent years under the leadership of Xi Jinping,” Blinken said during a forum at Stanford University with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Monday evening.
In many circumstances, he continued, “this creates a challenge to the interests and values of the United States,” noting that “there are more restrictive directions inside, and more aggressive outside.”
” In addition, China was accused of designing it for following the process of reuniting the island, which has self -independence, in a much faster schedule, but it has not provided any accurate appreciation or history.
However, he also emphasised the need to examine the interactions between the two biggest economic powers in the world in greater detail in order to advance shared objectives.
Beijing should heed the requests of a number of nations to play a constructive role in matters affecting those nations rather than a destructive one, he said.
On the other hand, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Winphen responded to the statements of Blinken, accusing Washington of changing her approach to Taiwan, and citing examples such as visiting Parliament Speaker Nancy Pelosi months ago, and increasing arms sales to Tibbeh, according to France Press, on Tuesday.
He also emphasised that the island’s propensity for secession and a peaceful resolution to the Taiwan problem are incompatible.
Several prominent American military figures have previously warned that China has expanded its military forces to the extent that it might be able to invade Taiwan soon.
As China has repeatedly stated that it wants to “restore peaceful unification” with Taiwan, it has also emphasised that it has the right to use force to retake the island if necessary, particularly if it does so formally.
In addition to the Taiwan issue, it is noted that under Donald Trump and his successor Joe Biden, relations between Washington and Beijing reached their lowest points in a decade over a range of issues, including trade, security, and human rights.
Last August, in response to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan and Beijing’s launch of its largest military exercises to date on the island, China stopped its collaboration with the United States in the areas of climate change and drug trafficking.
China has accelerated its efforts to annex Taiwan.
