Speaking about his ideal, Benzema added: “The golden ball was always in my mind, then the inspiration and desire came, as I had a higher example (his French compatriot) Zinedine Zidane and (the former Brazilian striker) Ronaldo.

And the 34 -year -old added: “I was working and did not give up again and over again, the important thing is to keep this dream in your mind, although I went through difficult circumstances and I was not with the French national team for a while, but I succeeded in overcoming that.

He continued, “My family lived difficult periods with me, for the first time I win this award, I am satisfied with the work that I did, I will continue, of course, I thank all my colleagues in Real Madrid, the team of France, my coach and the president of the great club Florentino Perez who gave me a great opportunity. ”
“The Golden Ball concluded an individual prize, but for me it is a collective prize.

Since Zidane won the trophy in 1998, Benzema is the first Frenchman to have won the Golden Ball.
Benzema followed Raymond Cuba (1958), Michel Platini (1983, 1984, 1985), Jean-Yarar Baban (1991), and Zidan as the fifth Frenchman to accomplish this feat (1998).
