Australia retracts its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel

Australia made the difficult decision to stop recognising West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Tuesday, recalling a decision made by the previous conservative administration.
As part of any peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian people, the issue of Jerusalem must be handled.

Australia is dedicated to a two-state solution, in which Israel and the future state of Palestine coexist in peace and security within internationally recognised borders, the official continued. “We won’t back a strategy that eliminates this opportunity. ”
As a change from a Middle Eastern policy that lasted for decades, the former conservative coalition government, led by Scott Morrison, recognised West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in 2018.

Australia withdraws its recognition of Israel’s capital, Jerusalem.
