The Yemeni Minister of Information calls on the international community to work to stop the destructive Houthi practices against the health sector

Muammar Al-Iryani, the Yemeni minister of information, culture, and tourism, called on the international community, the United Nations, and pertinent international organisations to exert real pressure on the Houthi group to stop its destructive practises against the health sector, as well as its manipulation and trading in this file to reap enormous profits, without regard for the innocent lives that are lost or the daily suffering of tens of thousands of people with difficult disabilities.

In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency “Saba,” Muammar Al-Iryani claimed that the Houthi group has engaged in systematic destruction of the government health sector, including targeting the infrastructure of hospitals and health centres, looting of devices and equipment, and replacing the leaders of the Ministry of Health and its affiliated units with unqualified and inexperienced Houthi elements. The group has also stopped paying the salaries of the medical and nursing staff.

According to him, the Houthi militia’s distribution of contaminated medications to several hospitals, which resulted in the deaths of more than 18 children, serves as a reminder of the systematic destruction, corruption, and meddling the militia has perpetrated against the health sector in the areas it has control over ever since its coup against the government.
