The United Nations monitors “serious violations” against children in Iran

On Monday, a UN committee urged Iran to stop committing “severe abuses” against youngsters in its effort to stifle the nation’s protest movement.
In a statement, the Child Rights Committee stated that “severe abuses of children’s rights in Iran must be the subject of an exhaustive investigation by independent and neutral authorities.

According to the group, recent peaceful protests resulted in at least 23 children being killed, injured, detained, or subjected to torture by Iranian security forces.
Amnesty International said on October 14 that Iran has killed at least 23 youngsters while repressing the protests.
The UN Rights Committee condemned the “severe violations of the rights of the child in Iran in the context of the peaceful protests that followed the death of a missionary Amene” after its arrest.

The demonstrations erupted on September 16 after the death of the 22 -year -old Iranian young Kurdish, three days after her arrest by the Ethics Police for violating the strict dress bases in Iran.
According to the committee, which cited trustworthy sources, some of the children had access to live ammunition while others passed away from brutal beatings.

The statement added that “many families stated that despite their great sorrow for the loss of a child, they were pressured to clear the security forces by announcing the suicide of their child and making false confessions. ”
The committee also voiced its serious worry regarding facts it reported on the custody of minors with adults, their torture, and their arrest in schools.

The committee pointed out that “the announcement of the Ministry of Education on October 12 to transfer the arrested children to medical and psychological centers for reform and education in order to avoid non -social, as well as information that the expulsion of students of revenge” raises great concern.
The committee, made up of 18 unaffiliated specialists, urged the Iranian government to “put a halt to any brutality against minors.”

Iran is a country that the UN says has “severe violations” against children.
