The European Union intensifies its military support for Ukraine

With its start on Monday to train 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers on its soil and its new funding of 500 million euros to furnish this country with weaponry, the European Union is stepping up its military assistance to Ukraine.
For the European Union, it sets a significant precedent, a European official said.
Foreign ministers of the 27 countries approve the two resolutions on Monday during a meeting in Luxembourg, to start the mission to work immediately, according to diplomatic sources.

A number of training exercises are being conducted in a number of member states, particularly in Germany and France, where Ukrainian soldiers are being taught how to utilise weapons, missile launchers, and air defences that have been provided to Ukraine by Europeans.
Sebastian Lucurno, the defence minister of France, stated in a newspaper on Saturday that France will train “up to 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers” on its own.

In order to address “the specific needs specified by the Ukrainians, such as logistics” and their training “on the equipment supplied to them,” he explained, it is necessary to ensure “generic training” for fighting.
The cash provided by the “European facility for peace,” a fund created outside of the European budget to provide military support to Ukraine, can be used for these training missions.
