Taiwan responds to the Chinese president: Our sovereignty is a red line

The Taiwanese Presidential Office declared on Sunday that Taipei will not cede its independence, freedom, or democracy, and that its people vehemently reject Beijing’s proposal to administer the island in accordance with the one-nation, two-systems principle. Beijing’s governing Communist Party Conference emphasised that the Chinese people must find a solution to the Taiwan problem and that China will never relinquish its right to use force against the island.

The spokesman for the presidential office, Zhang Ton Han, said in a statement that Taiwan is a sovereign state and its people believe in democracy and freedom and insist on it, according to the “Taiwan News” website.
The majority of Taiwanese citizens, he continued, had made it clear that they firmly rejected the idea of a single nation with two distinct political systems.

Zhang also stated that President Tsai Ing One reiterated Taiwan’s viewpoint, which is to continue to support the “four commitments” in order to promote Taiwan’s flexibility and global perspective.
He stated that Taiwan’s position is firm and that she will not give up her sovereignty on her lands, nor will it threaten democracy and freedom, stressing that carrying weapons is not an option to relations through the strait.

He stated that, according to the principles of rationality, equality and mutual respect, Taiwan is ready to work with Beijing to find a way to preserve peace and stability through the Taiwan Strait in an acceptable way for both parties.
The National Communist Party’s National Conference will be closely watched by Taiwan’s national security team, according to Zhang, who made the announcement.
