Study: Women are more skilled in finding words and remembering them than men

A new study revealed that the woman has a verbal fluency and a better memory compared to men, and the researchers found that women are better than men in finding words and remembering them, according to what the British newspaper “Daily Mail” published.
The findings of 168 investigations on the differences between men and women in “verbal fluency” and “cross verbal memory” were examined by researchers from the University of Bergen in Norway.

Verbal fluency is a gauge of one’s vocabulary, whereas accidental verbal memory refers to one’s capacity to recall terms they have accidentally come across in the past.
Professor Marco Hernstein said: “Most intellectual skills do not show any slight differences or differences in average performance between men and women, however, women excel in some tasks, while men excel in other tasks on average,” said Professor Marco Hernstein.

Over the course of the last fifty years, the researchers have examined data from over 350,000 subjects.
The researchers also examined the relationships between study findings and participant ages, publication year, and first or latter’s sex.
The findings, which were reported in Perspectives on Psychological Science, revealed a minor but persistent difference between men and women in verbal fluency and verbal memory.

However, in terms of verbal fluency, women only had an advantage when it came to “vocal flu,” or naming words that begin with a particular letter.
When naming objects that were, for example, red or circular, the gender differences depended on the category, which is referred to as semantic fluency.
The findings, according to the researchers, can enhance diagnostic tests that gauge verbal ability, such as dementia.

They claimed that understanding how well women generally perform in these tasks is essential to preventing women from going without a diagnosis due to their average performance.
Men who perform less well on the same tests may also be prevented by overdiagnosis.
The researchers claimed that a complex interplay of biological, psychological, social, and cultural elements is the source of the female advantage.
