Russian warplane crashes into residential area, killing 4

A Russian warplane crashed overnight into a residential area in a Russian city on the Sea of Azov after suffering engine failure, killing at least four people and leaving six others missing after a massive blaze that engulfed several floors of a nine-storey apartment building.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a Su-34 bomber crashed in the coastal city of Yeysk after one of its engines caught fire as it was taking off for a training mission.

It stated that although both crew members had successfully ejected, the aircraft had crashed into a neighbourhood, setting off a conflagration as tonnes of fuel detonated upon contact.
Authorities reported that 25 people were hurt, six people went missing, and at least four citizens were slain. Emergency rooms at nearby hospitals were scheduled, and medical helicopters were dispatched by the authorities. Around 100 residents were evacuated and given temporary housing, while at least 17 apartments were impacted by the fire.

According to the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, was informed of the incident and gave the local governor and the ministers of health and emergency the go-ahead to visit the scene. The 90,000-person city of Yeysk is home to a sizable Russian air base.
Regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev stated that emergency workers were able to put out the fire many hours after the collision, preventing the need to evacuate people living in nearby buildings.

Videos released on Russian messaging app channels showed an apartment building completely engulfed in flames and loud explosions that appeared to be the warplane’s missiles detonating.
The Su-34 is a supersonic twin-engine bomber that has served as a crucial strike element of the Russian air force. It is outfitted with modern sensors and armaments. The Syrian conflict and the War in Ukraine have both seen extensive deployment of the aircraft.

Since Moscow launched soldiers into Ukraine, there have been 10 documented non-combat crashes involving Russian aircraft.
