Ethiopia .. Tigrai forces agree to a ceasefire

Today, Sunday, the Popular Liberation Front in the Ethiopian Tigray area declared its support for upholding the truce with the regular army.
The two-year conflict in the Tigray area of northern Ethiopia was called to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire earlier today by the president of the African Union. He also urged the parties to agree to conduct direct peace talks.

The head of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, stated that he is quite concerned about the reports of the increasing violence in Tigray.
“The Chairman of the African Union Commission firmly demands for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and the resume of humanitarian services,” the African Union stated in a statement.

According to Reuters, neither Legisi Tolo, a spokesperson for the Ethiopian government, nor Colonel Gittenan, a spokesperson for the military, Radwan Hussein, the national security adviser to Prime Minister Abi Ahmed of Ethiopia, and no Prime Minister, a spokeswoman for the Prime Minister, have yet to comment.
Since the end of 2020, the Ethiopian government’s forces and those of its allies have been sporadically engaged in combat with the Tigrai forces. Numerous civilians have died in violence and millions have been displaced.

The African Union’s proposed peace negotiations this month were delayed due to logistical concerns, as the two sides trade blame for the conflict’s beginning.
