BEI to investigate man who lost consciousness during forceful arrest with Montreal police

Quebec’s independent investigation bureau (BEI) will look into a Sunday morning police intervention in Montreal that resulted in the unconsciousness of a man after he had been physically restrained.
The arrest took place at 5:10 a.m. on de Maisonneuve Ouest Boulevard in the centre of the city, according to a statement from the agency.
A 911 caller reported a fight between several people that had broken out on the sidewalk. Police say they tried arresting a 25-year-old man who resisted.

He lost consciousness as a result of “falling and hitting his head on the ground,” according to the statement, after officers used force to restrain him.
He was rushed to the hospital and is doing well.
The police monitoring organisation has dispatched five investigators to look into the event. Anyone who may have seen the incident is urged to get in touch with this office.

All fatalities and injuries sustained during police interventions are looked into by the BEI.
