The International Monetary Fund stated on Saturday that it and the Tunisian government had achieved an agreement at the expert level to provide Tunisia a $1.9 billion loan to be repaid over 48 months. The International Monetary Fund Executive Council, which will examine the Tunis Program’s proposal in December, must approve the final agreement on the arrangement, according to the fund statement.

” “The deterioration of the global situation and the rise in commodity prices affects the Tunisian economy,” the fund statement added.
He stated that creating a road plan for economic changes calls for “improving public sector openness and governance.

“The Tunisian government submitted a reform proposal to the International Monetary Fund that called for decreasing funding for essential commodities, restructuring public firms, and suspending promotions in public sector employee compensation.
The International Monetary Fund’s requested government reforms were, however, rejected by the Tunisian General Labor Union.

In light of “deep imbalances in the overall economy, extremely sluggish growth despite its considerable potential, very high unemployment rate, very weak investment, and social inequities,” the fund spoke of the “huge structural problems” facing Tunisia.
