Abu Al -Gheit: The Arab Indian Cooperation Forum next year in Delhi

His Excellency Mr. Supramamiam Jaishhankar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of India, was welcomed by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, at the General Secretariat’s headquarters on Saturday, October 15.

According to Jamal Rushdie, the Secretary-official General’s spokesman, Aboul Gheit welcomed the kind visitor and emphasised the significance and depth of the historical ties that unite the Arab world and India, as well as the growing commercial and cultural ties that strengthen ties between the two regions.

The Secretary-General and the Indian Minister, the spokesman continued, had previously postponed the next meeting of the Arab Indian Cooperation Forum, which would now take place in New Delhi in the first half of 2023. One of the reasons for these postponements was the Kofid 19 epidemic.

The spokesman noted that the two sides expressed a desire to kick off the work of the Arab Indian Cooperation Forum, which was founded in 2008, because of its excellent capabilities that can be utilised at all levels. He added that in this context, the amount of trade exchanged between the Indian and Arab sides in 2021 was estimated to be around 148 billion dollars.

The spokesman added that Aboul Gheit and the visiting minister agreed that it was crucial to continue holding the forum’s activities and events due to their positive effects on Arab-Indian relations generally and the crucial and complementary nature of the political discussions that the foreign ministers engaged in.

The Secretary-General emphasised the fundamental tenets of the Arab position on the Palestinian question, therefore the spokesman said that the conversations covered a variety of international issues of common interest.

The visiting minister’s gesture in this regard was appreciated by the Secretary-General, who noted that India continues to underscore its commitment to supporting Palestinian rights and that the Palestinian problem enjoys widespread political support. Additionally, Aboul Gheit expressed gratitude to the Indian side for continuing to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in the Near East (UNRWA).

The conference also featured a discussion of the conflict in Ukraine and how it has affected social and economic situations around the world, according to the spokeswoman.
