49-year-old man shot by Saskatchewan RCMP on Little Pine First Nation

A 49-year-old male was shot by police early on Saturday morning on the Little Pine First Nation, and an inquiry is currently under way.
The Cut Knife RCMP received three distinct reports about the individual from Little Pine First Nation on October 15, 2022, between 1:30 a.m. and midnight. There were claims of an assault, a gun pointed at Little Pine Security personnel, and an abandoned 911 call from a man contemplating suicide with a gun. At around 2:00 a.m.

two Cut Knife RCMP officers came into the 49-year-old man carrying a gun outside, close to a home on the Little Pine First Nation, according to an RCMP press statement. “The man was hurt during the police response, which involved the discharge of a firearm.”
Until EMS arrived and took him to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, officers gave the male first aid assistance. A few hours after receiving medical attention, the injured man was discharged from the hospital and taken into police custody.

Police discovered a firearm at the site, but no policemen were hurt.
According to the RCMP Act, an inquiry by an outside agency is necessary after a major occurrence involving the RCMP, such as a shooting involving police. In this case, the Saskatchewan RCMP has asked the Saskatoon Police Service and the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team to carry out this investigation.

The Ministry of Justice and Attorney General have been asked by the Saskatchewan RCMP to designate impartial investigation observers, including one Indigenous observer.
The RCMP is unable to identify the male since the current situation does not fall under any Privacy Act exclusions.
