Before the commencement of the El Clasico encounter against Real Madrid tomorrow, Sunday, Barcelona president Juan Laporta pleaded with the supporters to keep their faith in the club as Barcelona looks to right its ship after the Champions League match against Inter Milan.
Barcelona’s chances of advancing through the group stage of the Champions League took a terrible hit after it drew 3-3, but the greatest answer will be to defeat Real Madrid in a match that the whole football world will be watching.
Real Madrid and Barcelona both have the same number of points going into the game, however Barcelona is ahead of Real Madrid in the Spanish league rankings due to goal differential.
Laporta told the “Barcelona” TV channel: “Keep your confidence. We have a very competitive team, with very good players who will offer you a lot of joy.” Laporta urged the team’s supporters to continue having faith in Xavi and his players.
He added: “Stand behind Xavi, needs your warmth and trust.
We will give him this, and we expect the supporters to do the same.”
He also added: “I have great faith in Xavi, his technology, and the players. We have a fantastic team that will no doubt provide us much satisfaction; they can compete with any team in Europe.”
He emphasised: “We’ll go through this. To get what we desire, we won’t ever give up. This club has gone through all moments of victories and failures within years, but we have been able to return.
This is still possible, and we can do it from every club area.”
Laporta emphasised: “We are leading the league and there is a major match in Bernabeu standing in our way.” He then went on to describe the significance of the Sunday game in the quest for the Spanish League championship. And he added: “The El Clásico is an important match, who wins will get a great moral boost, while the loser will feel sad.
We will enter the contest with our heads held high because we have a team that can make an impact there. These are the kinds of games you want to watch.
“I hope that the players will defend the Barcelona shirt with the necessary spirit,” he said in his closing statement. We want to demonstrate our talent and league-winning potential.
