Iran criticizes the European Union and denies the provision of weapons to Russia

In a phone call with a European official, Iran chastised the EU for its stance on the ongoing protests and refuted claims that it discussed selling arms to Russia.

According to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website today, Saturday, “the turmoil and intentional fire and terrorist operations are no longer related to peaceful demonstrations,” Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullah stated over the phone with Josep Borrell, a representative of the European Union’s Foreign Policy.

The foreign affairs minister defended the legitimacy of the police actions against the protests.
He emphasised that the European Union shouldn’t use these facts as leverage against Iran.
In response to Iran’s repression of the protests, the European Union is reportedly planning to impose sanctions on Iran on Monday.

The large-scale protests in Iran follow the death of 22-year-old Muhsa Amini, who was killed while being arrested at a police station for not adhering to Islamic attire.
Amir Abdullah II refuted claims that Iran is a major player in the armed war in Ukraine or that it provides Russia with weaponry.
The foreign minister stated over the phone that there were no weaponry supplies to Russia, only military cooperation.

Despite the Russian side emphasising this, Tehran consistently refutes rumours that Iranian troops were sent to Ukraine and used there.

Iran attacks the European Union and disputes that it gave Russia weaponry.
