Following Moscow’s lead, Alexander Lukashenko, the president of Belarus, accused Western nations of ignoring the Ukrainian crisis, which has been raging since last February, while also emphasising that Minsk will not take part in the fighting.
The Kremlin ally said in an interview with the “NBC” network broadcast on Friday evening, that the crisis in Ukraine could be resolved within a week, if America and Britain agreed, as he put it.
In addition, he stressed that his country supports Russia, but it “did not kill anyone and will not do” in reference to the participation of his forces in the Russian -Russian conflict, according to France Press. Nobody requested us to take part in the fighting, and we have no intention of doing so, he continued.
Lukashenko stated that Belarus “is dealing with and feeding the Russians and Ukrainians alike, and likewise welcomes Ukrainian refugees” after previously announcing his agreement with his Russian counterpart to deploy a joint force on the border with Ukraine.
It is significant that the Belarusian government declared today, on Saturday, that the first Russian soldiers had arrived in the country as part of the unified military force tasked with protecting the nation’s borders from potential Ukrainian threats.
This action was taken after Lukashenko last Monday accused Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine of organising “rebellion” in the country and preparing for “terrorist” attacks. At the time, he announced his intention to expand this regional force, but he emphasised that its sole purpose is to defend his country’s borders.
