A German minister extends his stay in Washington due to a problem with the government plane

Due to an issue with a government plane, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner was forced to prolong his stay in Washington.
Lindner had a Friday departure time that he had to change into a trading plane for later that evening.
The rest of the delegation is scheduled to return to Germany on a government plane this afternoon.
Lindner was in America for the International Monetary Fund meetings taking place in the fall.

Notably, this is not the first time a government aircraft has experienced a difficulty, forcing important German officials’ plans to change.
After a problem with his aircraft surfaced in 2019, the return from Ethiopia of German President Frank Walter Steinmeier had to be delayed for a while.
Before that, the G20 conference in Argentina in 2018 lacked a photo of the previous German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The same year, Olaf Schultz, who was the finance minister at the time, was forced to travel independently on a commercial flight in order to return from an IMF meeting in Bali, Indonesia, again because of a malfunctioning government aircraft.

A government plane issue prompts a German minister to prolong his stay in Washington.
