As the Netherlands announced its participation in the Interflex Initiative to train Ukrainian military recruits on British soil, Ukraine joined the European Council’s decision on the eighth package of sanctions against Russia, which the Council adopted at the beginning of October, along with seven other nations.

The European Union Council stated that “the nominated countries, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania and Ukraine, as well as the country’s potential candidate and Herzegovina country, as well as the countries of the European League for Free Trade Iceland, Lesnstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Region, They support the council’s decision,” and as a result, these countries will ensure that the decision is upheld. According to the statement, “the European Union supports and appreciates this commitment.

It is noteworthy that on October 6, the European Union Council reached a consensus on the eighth package of sanctions against Russia, which establishes new import and export restrictions on steel, wood, machinery, aviation, plastic, and chemical materials valued at 7 billion euros, as well as fines for new companies involved in the conflict with Ukraine and legal individuals and entities.

This fits within the context of responses from Europe and other countries to Russia’s start of a military operation in Ukraine last February.

The European Council sanctions against Russia now include 8 nations.
