Qatar emir thanks Putin for support in organising FIFA World Cup

The emir of Qatar congratulated Vladimir Putin today for helping to organise the 2018 World Cup, according to him.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also praised Russia for hosting the 2018 World Cup of Football.
The emir stated that “Russian friends have provided enormous support to Qatar, especially in terms of organisation,” with the organising committee for the 2022 World Cup. “After Russia made a wonderful success in organising the 2018 World Cup,” he added.

“We appreciate your help, and we value our friendship. This will carry on till the World Cup is over. Your presence makes me extremely delighted, Mr. President. I appreciate it.
The event this year begins on November 20. The Russian president wished Qatar well in hosting.
You are aware of this since we recently had the chance to speak with you about it, but we are also doing everything we can to transmit the knowledge gained during the World Cup preparation process.

“I want to wish you well as you host this important event. I have no doubt that it will succeed.
Both leaders declined to specify the precise manner in which Russia has supported Qatar, the first Arab nation to host the World Cup.
One area in which Qatar has followed Russia’s example is by requiring fans to sign up for a mandatory ID, known as a Hayya Card.

The digital Hayya Cards are used by fans to enter the country, much like the Fan ID programme Russia implemented in 2018. Fans can only enter a World Cup stadium if they are in possession of a card.
Russia hosted the 2018 World Cup and advanced to the quarterfinals, but it will not participate in the tournament in Qatar since it was disqualified from the qualification round for its invasion of Ukraine.

Putin is thanked by the emir of Qatar for helping to host the FIFA World Cup.
