King Mohammed VI of Morocco declared today, on Friday, that the nation is experiencing a challenging period.
In a speech given to mark the start of the new session of the parliament, he remarked, “We have to concentrate our efforts to tackle the water situation in the country.
He also continued, “We created 50 dams and work on 20 others to solve the water problem.
The monarch of Morocco added, “We are relying on investments to strengthen the national economy and address the unemployment situation.
King Mohammed VI requested that Parliament remove impediments to the country’s investment flow and make it easier for international capital to enter.
It is noteworthy that the drought caused Morocco’s wheat production to fall by two thirds, forcing the country to import wheat to make up the shortfall. This resulted in a treasury bill of $600 million up until last July, which is double the amount projected in the general budget.
Morocco’s stores of wheat are enough to meet its demands for 5 months, therefore it is hoping that the drought won’t go too long so that it won’t have to import 5 million tonnes of soft wheat from France the next year.
