Although Oskar Zawada and Bozhidar Kraev are from Eastern Europe, they feel completely at home in Wellington.
They were so close that they had to share a flat as they adjusted to life in the city.
Oskar Zawada, a representative for Poland’s under-21 team, said, “Oh sure, we lived together since I couldn’t find a house so he (Kraev) took me into his place.”

Zawada has now settled down, but the new additions’ friendship, which includes Brazilian Yan Sasse, has endured.
Bozhidar Kraev frequently fills in for Sasse at training because the Brazilian’s command of English is still developing. The Phoenix is fortunate to be able to use the Bulgarian’s Portuguese abilities that he acquired when playing in that nation earlier in his career.
Yan Sasse and I are very close friends, according to Kraev.
Their newly formed relationship was especially crucial this week because Sasse was given a three-match suspension for getting sent off against Adelaide United last Saturday, resulting in a 1-1 tie.
Every player finds it frustrating when they are unable to play, but thanks to his experience, he is able to control his emotions while we wait for him to return.
The Phoenix will have to manage without the Brazilian for the time being as the team appeals his suspension, but Zawada is confident in the team’s ability to function without him.
Many people may not understand the standards of the league and the players here because I’m from Europe, he remarked.
I came here because of the head coaches’ expertise and their development strategy because I believe I can grow here.
Kraev concurred with such ideas.
The first game was a little slower and the tension wasn’t so high, but you can see tactically that guys are prepared because we’ve only just begun, according to Kraev.
